Busy boards are the latest hit with the young’uns! But what exactly are they, and why are they so popular?
Busy Boards are designed with the ‘Montessori’ learning style in mind; kinaesthetic learning through using your hands and senses to figure out processes. They’re a hands-on, ‘let’s get stuck in’ kind of toy and fab for distracting kids who’re easily bored. They’re an excellent way to facilitate the development of fine motor skills, too. Their wooden, handmade features also appeal to parents who favour traditional toys over plastic gizmos.
Where can I buy them?
Etsy is your best port of call for Busy Boards. They’re not really mainstream yet, so it’s not like you can pop into Argos and order one! Here are my top 3 favourite Busy Boards…
This board is £53.07 on Etsy currently! Its cute car shape and amazing sensory activities mean that it is very well reviewed. You can see more here!
This ‘Extra Plus’ Busy Board is £101.33 on Etsy currently; it’s jam packed with awesome gadgets to keep baby entertained. You can see more here!
And finally, this board is £118.81 on Etsy. Well reviewed, this board is captivating for little fingers! You can see more here.
Can I make my own?
Yes, it would likely be much cheaper too! However, I’d urge caution if you’re not a highly experienced craftsman, as you’d never forgive yourself if baby injured themselves on a DIY board! I’d also encourage anyone wanting to take on this task to familiarise themselves with toy safety regulations to ensure maximum safety.
I must state that all items sold on Etsy are legally required to meet safety requirements, unlike a DIY board so in my eyes, it’s worth putting down the tools and letting the good folk of Etsy use their experience to create these amazing Busy Boards!
Will you be investing in a Busy Board, or even making one for your little one this Christmas? What do you think of them? Tell us in the comments!
