Pregnancy comes with so many changes, especially to our skin as we grow, so it’s important to take good care of it!
With hormone balances changing, your uterus stretching to accommodate your growing baby, and all the other physical exertion that comes from impending motherhood, your skin comes under lots of added strain. Our skin is so important – it’s the largest organ we have, and our first defence against undesirable nasties, so it is vital to pamper and protect your skin, especially with a baby on board.
There are many helpful ways in which you can practice a good skin care regimen;
- Drink plenty of water, as this helps to prevent dry skin and keeps skin supple, which in turn may help protect against stretchmarks.
- Use an SPF of at least 15 – an SPF tinted moisturiser is a good option for winter months.
- Avoid smoking, especially in pregnancy, as this is really unhealthy for you and your unborn baby. Smoking ages the skin too.
- Avoid harsh chemicals such as Sodium Laurel Sulphate.
- Find high quality products designed to pamper and protect your skin.
That’s why we LOVE Mama Mio products*! Their skin products are made with pregnant ladies in mind, and they even categorise their range by trimester because they just KNOW what each stage of pregnancy needs.
They promise to a deliver products with ‘no nasties‘ added, using ‘high quality, natural ingredients’, meaning that their products are suitable for use during pregnancy and when breastfeeding! Their ethos of excellent customer service and expert advice means that the customer is always in mind at every single point – as their ethos states, your pregnancy is at the heart of all they do!
Our Bump, Baby & You community group moderator Leanne is currently pregnant and has tried these wonderful products out… here’s her honest review.
Mama Mio Tummy rub scrub
Leanne: “This comes in nice packaging, smells amazing – citrus, a fresh and clean smell. Be careful when pouring as comes out very easy and you may get too much. It felt really nice on skin in the shower, not too rough. Upon getting out of the shower my tummy felt clean and exfoliated ready for moisturiser.”
It’s no wonder Leanne loves this product; containing natural pumice, volcanic lava, and bamboo extract, this exfoliant is packed with gentle and natural ingredients which will remove dry and dead skin, leaving behind fresh and moisturised skin which can help to ward off stretchmarks and blemishes.

Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter
Leanne: “Again I loved the packaging, easy to open. The butter smelt the same as the scrub, which complimented it well. It felt very fresh. The butter is very smooth and soft, unlike some body butters which are hard and not easy to spread. It felt really soft and creamy on skin, rubbed in nicely. Skin felt moisturised and hydrated for several hours after. I will continue to use this for the reminder of my pregnancy to keep my skin soft and supple.”
The Mama Mio ‘The Tummy Rub Butter’ is clinically proven to protect against stretch marks and increase skin’s elasticity; this is a brilliant accolade for Mama Mio! It’s also clinically proven to increase elasticity by 20% over 2 weeks; again, this is excellent, and really useful for pregnant bodies.

Mama Mio Tummy Rub Oil
Leanne: “This had the same fresh, lovely scent as the butter and the scrub. I like this as they really compliment each other. I like to use oil on my bump when it feels really tight. I liked the spray element on the bottle, rather than pouring, this stopped it from running. It felt nice initially on my skin and relieved the tight feeling, leaving my skin feeling hydrated however it didn’t absorb well and stayed on top of my skin for several hours, I felt a bit sticky and greasy. I should mention I am prone to oily skin so perhaps this would be more suited to someone with dry skin. I would maybe only use this at bed time when I am going to shower the residue off in the morning.”
After using this, 90% of testers found that their skin felt softer, and 84% agreed that their skin felt deeply hydrated – fabulous statistics right there! It has also been proven to help alleviate itchiness, which can often be annoying as your bump blossoms. The slickness of oil products isn’t for everyone of course; however, oil based products tend to be more deeply nourishing, and this Mama Mio Tummy Rub Oil contains luxuriant natural ingredients such as;
- Organic Sacha Inchi Oil 0 From the Amazon rainforest, packed with antioxidants and Omega 3, to boost your skin’s rejuvenation.
- Organic Rosehip Oil – With nourishing and soothing Omegas 3, 6 and 9 which are excellent for nourishing skin.
- Vitamin E – An essential antioxidant to protect skin as it stretches to accommodate your growing baby.
- Organic Avocado Oil – Excellent for nourishing and moisturising!

Mama Mio Pregnancy Boob Tube
Leanne: “This has the same great smell as previous products. It’s a lovely light cream, which I applied to my breasts, leaving them feeling soft. I liked this product but felt the original tummy rub butter used on this area, left it feeling more hydrated and moisturised.”
This product is aimed at ladies who’re struggling with boob soreness and tenderness during pregnancy; I personally had this issue terribly and wish I’d known about Mama Mio back then. Packed with omega oils, evening primrose oil, rosehip oil and shea butter, this cream is super nourishing and soothing, and as Leanne said, light and softening!

Sleep Easy Mama Set: With Pillow Spray, Bath and Shower Oil, and Tummy Rub Butter.
Leanne: “This comes in a lovely white leather case, perfect for a gift and storing the products. All 3 products have a lovely mix of eucalyptus, lavender and tea tree smell, complimenting each other well. I will continue to use these products perhaps once or twice a week as a treat. I think this set is great value for money and would make a lovely gift for a mama to be.”
We agree with Leanne, this would be the perfect gift for a Baby Shower or Mother’s Day (cough, cough, daddies-to-be)! Leanne has reviewed each product individually below; let’s see what goodies are within.
Mama Mio Bath and shower oil
Leanne: “I used this in the shower on wet skin as directed. It felt nice going on and the smell really relaxing, like being in a spa, however it left a slight residue and I felt I had to wash my skin after use. I think this would be better used in the bath, which I am going to try next time.”
This contains organic sunflower seed oil and organic pumpkin oil; both are incredibly nourishing on your tender pregnancy skin, and is clearly extremely luxuriant because Leanne found it gave her a spa-like experience in the comfort of her own home.
Mama Mio Tummy rub butter
Leanne: “Again this has a spa like smell to it, it felt really nice going on, even better if you have someone else to rub it in for you (husband was very kind and did this for me) felt very relaxing. Just like the original tummy rub butter, it’s very smooth and creamy, easy to apply and leaves your skin feeling soft, subtle and hydrated. Due to the smell I feel its not for everyday use on bump, more as a pamper treat or of an evening to help with sleeping.”
Another product with spa attributes – kudos to Mama Mio! Leanne was also given a full size version of this to review, which you can see further up this article.
Mama Mio Pillow Spray
Leanne: “This is a lovely pillow spray, not too over powering, very relaxing. I used all 3 products in a little pamper session last night and I felt amazing afterwards, very relaxed and my skin felt great. I also had one of the best nights sleep I have had in a while, only 1 trip to the bathroom which for a pregnant lady is a bonus.
To be able to say that this product gave this pregnant mama the best nights sleep she has had in a while, Mama Mio has really outdone themselves. Leanne has really struggled to get restful sleep throughout her pregnancy so far, so I’m so happy that she’s found this spray helpful – she must be exhausted after helping us with our Facebook community on top of parenting and working, so she deserves a peaceful slumber!
You can find this set at Mama Mio here* – remember that Mother’s Day is looming, so this could be the perfect gift for the expectant mama in your life.
To conclude…
Leanne: “This is the first time I have used Mama Mio products and over all I am very pleased with them. They come in lovely packing, and the products are tailored to mamas to be. There are good directions on all products of how best to use and it’s nice that an everyday product can leave you feeling pampered, which all pregnant ladies need.”
Well, there we have it; Leanne loves Mama Mio products and will carry on pampering herself throughout the remainder of her pregnancy. These products are fabulous for self care during your pregnancy, we wholeheartedly recommend them!
A Final Recommendation…
