Are you looking for a fun Christmas Eve tradition to start with your children?

Why not head on down to your local Morrisons to grab yourself a free bag of ‘wonky carrots’ from Morrisons? Morrisons are giving away 125,000 wonky carrots this year as part of an incentive to encourage customers to buy produce that isn’t perfect – their wonky range is dedicated to imperfect produce that was wasted in the past.

They’ll be handing out in paper bags labelled ‘Carrots For Rudolph’ at the entrance of all 493 Morrisons stores across the UK on Saturday 21st of December.

Around Christmas, carrot sales rocket from 450,000 bags a week sold by Morrisons to over 1.6 million in the last three weeks of December, yet only 10-15% of these sales are wonky carrots despite them usually being cheaper and tasting exactly the same as ‘perfect’ produce – we hope that this incentive gives wonky produce a better reputation and helps us as a society to waste less. It will also help British farmers, as this years harvest has brought much more wonky carrots than usual due to heavier ran than usual during the growing season.

“We want to make it easy for our customers to enjoy these magical Christmas traditions. And at the same time we want to highlight that wonky carrots are just as tasty as perfect-looking carrots – to support our farmers.”

Morrisons will ALSO be giving out free oranges for stockings on Sunday the 22nd of December!

The oranges will be given to parents along with a story card telling the history of this Christmas tradition so that mummies and daddies can read it to their children ahead of the big day. How lovely!
