International Day Of The Midwife

The 5th of May is International Day Of The Midwife!

Midwives are our caregivers and protectors during our pregnancies, births, and during the vulnerable post partum period, and make the difference between life and death for mummies all over the world on a daily basis. Midwives give valuable advice, offer support where needed, and help us to bring our babies into the world as safely as possible. Their work is incredible, so today is dedicated to Midwives everywhere who commit themselves to this valuable vocation.

Since 1992, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) has led this global awareness campaign to give our lovely midwives the recognition and adulation that they really do deserve for the hard work and care they put into the mothers and babies who rely on their expertise.

Pregnancy & birth is an incredibly vulnerable time for us mummies, so midwives hold a place of special significance for us all!

Thoughts from our community…

Emma: “I cannot fault my community midwife at all. I had a really complex pregnancy and she was there every step of the way, I knew I could count on her. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Sarah: “When I had my daughter, the midwife I had for most of the day is someone I will never forget. She even stayed after her shift to make sure me and baby were ok. She was so kind.”

Michelle: “I’ve had 5 babies now, I was consultant led for the last 2 but seen the same midwife for all 5, she’s such a friendly face and really looked after me every time.”

Lindsay: “My midwife was so great that she actually inspired me to go to university to train as a midwife!”

Thank you to all the midwives reading this; your hard work is valued and appreciated. We love you!

Love Team BBY. Xx
