A Hello Fresh driver has caused uproar in Sweden by leaving a 22lb delivery on top of a sleeping baby!
(It's worth noting that in Sweden and some other Northern European countries, leaving a baby outdoors to nap in their pram whilst well wrapped up is the norm and seen as safe.)
In a rush to find a dry place to leave the 22lb (10kg) Hello Fresh grocery parcel, the driver inadvertently left the box on top of a baby sleeping in its pram outside the front door, and then left quickly without realising what he'd done.
The baby's mother had left him in the pram outside her house in Sweden - as we mentioned before, it's normal for kids to be put outside to nap, and culturally it is encouraged as a 'health practice'. On Instagram, the mother wrote a post shaming Hello Fresh: 'Congratulations, you crushed a sleeping baby in its pram with a 10KG parcel and have no shame. Thank God the baby is OK! Never again!'

The post was then reshared by Blogger Camilla Gervide through her website, Bloggbevakning. It was claimed that the mum had been offered just 250 Swedish Kroner (approximately £20) as compensation! Hello Fresh spokesman Mikael Sahlsten was approached for comment, and told Aftonbladet that the delivery driver was looking for a dry place to leave the parcel safely.
‘When no one opened up, the driver wanted to leave the parcel on the doorstep, but he thought the surface was too damp,’ Mikael Sahlsten, a spokesman for the business, told the Aftonbladet newspaper. So he thought the pram would be more practical. He didn’t see the baby. The mother called us immediately and we made contact with the driver right away. He was very sorry about the whole thing. He drove back to the customer and apologised with flowers and pralines. He also wanted to know how the child was doing.’
When told what he had done, the driver was reportedly very remorseful and upset about the situation, with the mum sharing that he burst into years when he returned to apologise - and gift her some flowers and chocolate. After, the mum shared that she had been gifted two free deliveries.
Our verdict...
We're so glad that this story had a happy outcome - baby is unharmed, mum seems happy with her two free Hello Fresh deliveries, and this delivery driver will certainly be more careful when it comes to finding a safe space for packages in future... Accidents happen! However, with this being such a common practice in Sweden, it was silly for this driver to not check in the pram first.
