Who are TK Maxx

TK Maxx are the place to go for big designer brands at amazing prices. With long opening times, they're a convenient place to shop for busy parents too, so you needn't worry about rushing to your local TK Maxx if you're under time pressure - many branches are open until 8pm on weekdays and 7pm on weekends, giving you more flexibility.

The story of TK Maxx starts over in Framingham, Massachusetts, United States. TJ Maxx - note the distinction from TK Maxx - was founded in 1976 by by Bernard Cammarata. The first global store opened in Bristol, UK, in 1994, and at this point the company altered the name to TK Maxx to avoid confusion with British chanin store T. J. Hughes, which is not affiliated with TJ Maxx. Proving popular in the UK, TK Maxx continued opening stores, with there being 358 TK Maxx stores in the UK at the time of writing in 2024. In 2007, TK Maxx switched their focus from opening new stores to revamping and relocating their older inner city stores, leading to the establishment of Maxx Maxx, which transformed TK Maxx from their budget low cost shopping image into a large department store layout, with a greater range of products.

TK Maxx also offer an online shopping experience with their e-commerce website, which was launched in March 2009. At the initial outset, the TK Maxx website only sold handbags, but gradually expanded their range of available items online. In April 2017, the brand was launched in Australia, taking over the 35 Trade Secret stores. In June 2023, the first store opened in Tasmania, Australia at Northgate Shopping Centre.
