Who are schuh?

The 'schuh story' on their website is certainly an interesting one; it's always great to learn more about the brands we've come to love and trust. The first schuh opened as a small independent store in 1981 in Edinburgh, and were nearly called 'Lizard Shoes' before picking their simpler, German name! They were seeking to create a space for footwear like never seen before, before opening new franchises in Glasgow, Newcastle and beyond. Over time, they became a 'branded environment', taking on stock of some of the best know designer names such as Vans, Dr Martens, Converse and much more, as well as stocking their own great ranges.

In 2011, schuh was acquired by Genesco Inc., who are a Nashville-based speciality retailer. Genesco Inc. sells footwear, headwear, sports apparel and accessories in more than 2455 stores across the U.S. and Canada - Journeys, Lids and Johnston & Murphy to name a few. In 2012, schuh opened their three kids-only shoe stores in Lakeside, Braehead and Liverpool, and in 2015 launched their first store in Germany (Oberhausen), where nobody struggles to pronounce their name!

Why do we love schuh?
