Free Resources Parents Can Access During School Closures

With UK school closures announced, many parents are worrying about keeping their little ones engaged and learning whilst still having fun!

Luckily, there are many amazing FREE online resources that you can access from home, as well as the learning packs that your schools may be sending home. These resources will also benefit children who may be at nursery or preschools (not currently forced to close) but at home for isolation!

Here’s what we’ve found so far… Comment below to tell us about resources we’ve missed!

Toy Theater

This website is a great resource for free, educational online games and they’re actually really fun, too! Our favourite is balloon pop. This site is suitable for a wide range of education levels, and definitely one worth looking at.

DK Find Out

We love the quizzes and online activities on this website! With languages, computer coding, dinosaurs shapes and much, much more, we can’t believe that this is free!

Twinkl

This online resource is usually a fee-paying website but you can get free access for a month (potentially longer depending on the progression of the outbreak). There are thousands of exciting printable resources on this website, and it’s one that teachers actually use for everyday teaching so you know that it is high quality!

Find out how to get your free month here.

BBC Learning

An older website that doesn’t get updated anymore, this is still a great resource and includes things like language learning to BBC Bitesize. No TV licence required except for things that use BBC iPlayer, of course!

Cbeebies Radio

Full of Listening activities for younger learners, this is a lovely learning resource, and visually impaired children can fully utilise it too as it’s audio based!

Blockly

This free resource is perfect for budding computer programmers! Many schools use this at primary level, and it’s really popular, one we’d definitely recommend.

Duolingo

We love Duolingo! The app is so easy to use, and it’s also available on web browers too. You can set different levels of difficulty and learn so many different languages for free! I use this to keep my French and German brushed up in my spare time, and really enjoy it.

Mystery Science

These free science lessons include topics like plants, animals, space, physics for kids, and much more. Mystery Science aims to improve STEM education by offering free accounts, there are currently just over 4700 left so be quick.

The Kids Should See This

This is a really interesting and entertaining site for educational videos, especially for kids who LOVE watching videos! Our favourite videos include…

  • Why isn’t the world covered in poop?
  • Cookie dunking machine
  • Domino cats
  • Kangaroo Rats are furry, spring-loaded ninjas

They’re funny, quirky but very educational, so well worth a look.

Crest Awards

This free website is full of STEM projects that you can complete awards for, and is perfect for 5-7 year olds.

Paw Print Badges

You can download free activity and challenge packs on this brilliant website – it’s so adventurous and full of fun things to do!

Tinkercad

This website is SO cool! Your kids can create 3D digital projects and learn basic coding – perfect for your future computer expert! It’s so easy to use, too.

Ted Ed

The perfect place for educational videos, we think. More for older children and teens, though!

National Geographic Kids

NatGeo for kids is fantastic! You can access loads of free educational resources, tutorials, games and competitions that are also educational and informative – perfect.

Oxford Owl for Home

There’s so many wonderful free resources on this website, including free e-books. This site is suitable for children aged 3 to 11.

Geography Games

If your little one really enjoys learning about the world around them, you can keep them happy with some free Geography gaming!

The Artful Parent

These free arts and crafts activities are lovely, and there are constant updates with new, fresh ideas for you to try with your kids.

The Imagination Tree

This is perfect for younger children – you can access so many free games, activities and ideas to educate your little one from home in a really fun and engaging way.

Tell us in the comments, which other websites would you reccomend?
