This savvy trick is a great way to teach your children the importance of washing their hands with soap!
By now, we’re all aware of what is going on in the world – the importance of good hygiene practices has never been more relevant, and it is so important to pass this onto our children. We’ve spotted this activity, and we think that it could be so useful!
The activity involves a bowl of water, black pepper, and hand soap. It’s simple, quick, and reinforces the message VERY effectively, and here is how you can do it…
Step one: Fill a bowl with water and add black pepper. Explain that the grains represent germs.
Step two: Ask your child to dip a plain, unsoapy finger into the bowl, and show them how the ‘germs’ transfer.
Step three: Rub some hand wash/soap on another finger, and ask your child to dip that finger in. Watch as the grains of pepper are ‘magically’ repelled away from the finger! This happens due to the change in surface tension caused by the soap but it’s a fabulous way for a child to visualise the relationship between germs and soap.
Here’s a video tutorial to demonstrate the trick:
We’d love to see your videos of you doing this – for a chance to be featured, email in at [email protected]!
