Pregnancy & Parenting Acronym & Abbreviation List

If you’re looking for information on trying to conceive, or a member of a pregnancy & parenting online group/forums, you may come across some bizarre expressions, acronyms and abbreviations.

Here I’ve collated as many as I can find to help out our lovely followers – I’ve not included the more medical-oriented examples to avoid confusion in interpreting your maternity notes. If you have any questions about something in your notes, please speak to your midwife!

TTC – Trying To Conceive

POAS – Piss On A Stick

BFP – Big Fat Positive

BFN – Big Fat Negative

OH – Other Half

SO – Significant Other

BD – Baby Dance (Sex)

BF – Breastfeed

EBF – Exclusively Breastfeed

FF – Formula Feed

PP – Post Partum

PPH – Post Partum Haemorrhage

CM – Cervical Mucus

CD – Cycle Day

HCG – Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (Pregnancy Hormone)

HPT – Home Pregnancy Test

CS – Caesarean Section

EMC – Emergency Caesarean

AF – Aunt Flow (Period)

MC – Miscarriage

LP – Luteal Phase

CMPA – Cows Milk Protein Allergy

LI – Lactose Intolerance
