Parents Taken To Court For Naming Child 'Liam'

Parents in France were thrilled when they gave birth to a happy, healthy baby girl but when they chose to name her ‘Liam’ the French Government objected.

In this day and age, we’re still battling the demons who don’t agree with gender equality. What one parent chooses to name their child, usually means others don’t have a say but what do you do when a government demands you change it?

The name ‘Liam’ for a girl is definitely unusual, but with this day and age, it’s the norm. Everyone wants to have a unique name for their child, something that means something to those parents who have created a beautiful life to call their own.

The reason the French Government have is that they’ve chosen a traditional boys name… for a girl.

With their main concern being “would be likely to create a risk of gender confusion”, reports The Local.

The prosecutor explained “contrary to the interest of the child and could harm her in her social relations” and asked for a judge to ban the parents from using it.

The parents are currently fighting against this and are seeking legal help. They’ve also had to postpone her baptism.

As some may not know, these court proceedings aren’t unusual for France.

They have taken other parents to court and have banned the names, Nutella, Strawberry and Manhattan.
