NEW RESEARCH: Left Or Right?

It has long been thought that whether a child is left or right-handed was decided by the brain at the toddler stage of development – but latest research suggests that might not be the case…

In fact, according to a study published in eLife, scientists now believe that the left-right preference is determined as the spine forms at around eight weeks – and there are clues to be found at the 13 week scan, such as whether baby is sucking the thumb of the left or right hand.

Of course further study will be needed before it can conclusively be said that ultrasounds can give you a clue about whether your child will be left-or-right handed though.
